October 2015 News

Patricia Gill, President 2015, Toberman AuxiliaryHot Fall Greetings!

Wings & Wheels was enjoyed by those who attended. The Ekberg’s collection of cars and planes, augmented by Nancy Collinge’s Tesla were big hits. Tiger Squadron pilots were in attendance to talk about the planes and cars with our guests. Taco Surf catered delicious food, and youth service organizations baked and donated wonderful cookies and brownies for dessert. Richard Leach and his guitar made lovely background music which everyone appreciated. Evelyn Morgan put together very nice silent auction items, including a champagne basket, dine-arounds, and a private car museum tour. Click on the photos below to enlarge and rotate through.

Thanks to Joyce Prizler and Peggy Ekberg for the event concept, and to Patty Jo Ferrara for naming it Wings & Wheels. More thanks to Peggy for securing the venue with Hanne & Craig Ekberg, and for the food and beverage arrangements. Rosemary Zettler, Donna Sherlacher, and Sue Ware arranged beautiful red roses and white carnations in red and white containers on alternating red, white and blue tablecloths, making the dining room look wonderful. Donna Anderson arranged for Richard Leach to play guitar, and she and Rosemary subsidized the cost. Bob Gill put in a lot of time and effort to setup and man the Mocktails bar. Brady Wynne (age 8) proved to be a masterful seller of 50-50 tickets. Thank you, Brady! Thanks to Kenny Green from TNC for joining us. And thanks to TNC for the vans and drivers to shuttle guests between the terminal and hangar. Thanks to Sue and Larry Ware, and Skip Collinge for taking guests to the hangar in their vehicles. Special thanks to the Los Hermanos, and Los Compadres volunteers for their help setting up and cleaning up. And thanks to everyone else who helped, and attended.

Hello Ladies,

Hope all of you had a wonderful summer and are “gearing up” for the coming holidays.

The receipts for the month of August were $2,490.97. For the month of September were $2,275.53.
Not too bad for this horribly hot weather we have been having. In spite of this weather you wonderful ladies have continued to honor your commitment to the Auxiliary Thrift store and allow us to continue to raise funds for Toberman. Our greatest thanks and blessings to all of you!!

We are now gearing up for all of the holidays and our shop is looking very festive. Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas are upon us (TOO SOON) and ,hopefully, it will be a successful season. I know that many of you will be visiting your families over the holidays so please make sure that you let Sue or I know when you will need a substitute. It is almost impossible to get someone so let us know as far in advance as possible.

We have been having problems with our contributions to the Salvation Army because of the storage problem.
We now have a closet in the hallway to deposit our bags and keep them secure until they are picked up. Many thanks to Jenée in Administration for finding this space for us. She has been a tremendous asset not only to us but to Toberman Neighborhood Center.

I want to thank Sue Ware, again, for all that she has done for the shop. As co-chair she has taken over most of my duties and has done it with grace and understanding. She is a wonderful example of what our Auxiliary is all about. She has learned the names of all our regular customers and they ask for her every time they come to the store. She is such a blessing for all of us.

Again, many thanks to all of you!! Without you we couldn’t exist!!

God Bless,
Evelyn Morgan, Sue Ware

August Was Hosted Extraordinarily by Marge Haneline. With a delicious luncheon including a magnificent birthday cake and ice cream bars to celebrate our Nancy Collinge!!!! (Marge’s birthday was the day before Nancy’s.) She also treated us to six GORGEOUS male performers whom we all greatly admired (;~)
We were unable to determine a bridge winner that day so that all funds of $384.00, were donated to Toberman.

Toberman Party Bridge | September 9, 2015

We had four tables of bridge, a great lunch and out usual wonderful camaraderie. Our hostesses were Marge Haneline and Mary Enos. Marge made as many calls as she could, up until she was taken to emergency with a heart attack. We understand she had a stint put in, as well as a pacemaker. We all signed a card, and I’m sure many will keep her in our prayers as well. Mary Enos made the rest of the calls, as well as some last-minute changes, brought the goodies, and did the 50-50 drawing. Thanks, Mary for helping out.

Another hero was Joyce Prizler, who changed her schedule and filled in when I called her on the morninf of the event when someone became ill and couldn’t make it. Many of our regular members are truly deicated to helping make our bridge game a success, and to supporting Toberman. We really appreciate these members, who go well beyond the call of duty.

Our winners were 1) Norine Madison, 2) Peggie Bartkowski (after adjustment), and 3) Janet Weitsman.

Hostesses for October are Peggie Bartkowski and Janet Weitsman. As usual please return their calls promptly and let them know you are coming (or not — if you must).

Today’s profit was $167.00.
