Isn’t October a glorious month! There are the wonderful fall colors but it’s also a window to consider what’s important for the holidays. For me right now it’s where best to spend Thanksgiving and also how much time can I give to the Auxiliary’s November 17th event, “The Parade of Trees”. I have a fabric holiday panel for the Silent Auction that I can quilt on while George and I are watching the Dodgers win. I can ask a couple of our favorite restaurants about a gift certificate. I can call some Auxiliary members to encourage them to attend. I can even try to put together a table of friends that are not Auxiliary members. And I can feel good about knowing whatever I do will help Toberman Neighborhood Center continue to help those in need, whatever that particular need might be. October is not only a beautiful month, it’s also a feel-good month. Looking forward to seeing you on the 17th.
Attached is the flyer about our Friday, November 17th “The Parade of Trees”, more manageable size-wise but just as enjoyable as our former event. Held in Toberman’s gymnasium rather than an expensive hotel, we’ll enjoy a tasty catered lunch, pretty centerpieces (thanks to Arline Grotz) a unique fashion show, Silent Auction items, and of course, a parade of captivatingly decorated holiday trees. All for a more reasonable $50. If you’d like to sponsor a table of ten, the cost would be $500.
Gift certificates or items for a Silent Auction basket are to be directed to Nancy Collinge.
When you call the number on the flyer (310-832-1145 Ext. 124) you’ll be speaking with Russell Clay who’ll take your reservation and seat you at a table of your choice.
Do call now! You don’t want to miss this!!
Ways & Means – Parade of Trees: Please Help with Silent Auction Baskets
Nancy is putting together baskets and giving out the trees to be decorated for the event. She would love to have some baskets donated, either full – from some kindly donor, or empty, so she can put them together for the Silent Auction table. Items usable for the baskets are always nice as well. Surely there are lovely things our ladies have gotten as gifts that are still in the wrappings and would be great in one of the baskets.

Sales, Sales, and increased sales are what’s occurring at the Thrift Store! We are pleased to announce that sales have increased each month since July! July: $2,927.25; August $3,676.01; and, September $4,849.07!! – an almost 40% increase. September was our best month ever.
In large part our success is due to the new Thrift Store FY18 Calendar of Sale Events. Each month the Thrift Store schedules various events including: Holiday Sales, Household items, Table Sales, and Buy any three items, get one free, and Bag Sales. These promotions have proven to be quite successful.
In September the popular Bag Sale brought in $326.00! That’s quite a few bags at $8 per bag. Not only does the customer win, but it also helps the Thrift Store move merchandise faster and keep up with the volume of donations received daily! Thanks to a donation by one of our members, six new clothes racks provide customers ample space to peruse and purchase clothing.
As you know, sales will fluctuate, and the trend may change. But for now, The Thrift Store is thriving. Many thanks to Marlene Hernandez, Store Manager, staff and volunteers who work at the Thrift Store. They are doing a great job serving customers and community.
Special thanks to Linda Matlock, Toberman CEO and staff that promote and support the Thrift Store’s success through partnership with the Auxiliary, marketing, advertising and in so many ways.
The November 17th Parade of Trees will include a Thrift Shop Fashion Show. Toberman has invited people to come.
