Rosemary’s Ramblings:

I can’t help but feel excited and encouraged when I consider the progress the Auxiliary has made this year. You wonderful bridge players have brought in a steady flow of income, not to mention Nancy Collinge’s Game day netting over $5000.  We’ve had two “Tour and Tea” events, the first at private homes and the most recent at Toberman  itself (article below) bringing in over $3000. We’ve welcomed six new members and hope to attract more through our fall activities, a “crime safety speaker” in September, supporting Toberman’s Casino Night in October and participating in an updated “Parade of  Christmas Trees” event in November. The Nominations Committee is hard at work and we’ll be scheduling the installation of new officers at a holiday luncheon in December. What a bright future! So many thanks to all involved.

Calendar of upcoming events:

Monday, September 25th at Think Café in San Pedro (302 W 5th St) – Lunch and the  “Humorous Crime Safety Speaker”, Byron Walls.  We’ll meet at 11:00 for a brief Auxiliary activities update, each select a lunch menu from four available choices, eat and then welcome our speaker at about 12:30.  The cost – $25. Please call Donna Scherlacher at  310-541-1813 for reservations. Try not to miss this one!

Saturday, October 21st – “Casino Night” to be held in Toberman’s gymnasium. The theme – “The Roaring 20s” so plan to come in costume, gamble with the money included in your ticket, dine and dance (or watch) the Charleston – all for $170.

Friday, November 17th – A still-being-defined Christmas event including a Parade of Christmas Trees at which the Auxiliary is being invited to decorate six and also provide table centerpieces.  Lunch will be served at 12:30 and the program will include a performance by Toberman Kids.

December – Christmas luncheon with the installation of our 2018 Auxiliary Board

January – some kind of yard sale/craft fair at Toberman.

Wasn’t the June 26th “Toberman Tour and Tea” a delightful event. The Tour of TNC was interesting and enlightening to both “seasoned” and new members and potential new members. The videos and view of the actual facility provided greater insight into the workings of this wonderful organization

A huge thank you to Nancy Collinge, Maxine Peak, Patricia Ferrara, Debbie Doomey, and Rosemary Zettler for creating the  lovely table tables. (picture)

Maxine Peak, Donna Scherlacher, Joyce Prizler, Peggy Ekberg and Debbie Doomey to thank for the delicious finger food. What a thrill it was to listen to Patricia Ferrara’s granddaughter, Olivia Iacona, present an outstanding singing program. And then there was the Thrift Shop fashion show! Thank you, Nancy Collinge, for acting as commentator and introducing the models, Patricia Ferrara, Marlene Hernandez and her captivating little daughter, Rosemary Zettler, Mieke Sorrentino and our finale model, Peggy Ekberg in her beautiful Christian Dior lounging robe. Yes, she got it at the Thrift Shop!! (picture)

Donna Scherlacher and Joyce Prizler welcome our 31 guests the  Reservations Table. Truly a team effort, so enjoyable and to top it off, we made $740.00. How about that!!  Thanks, everyone!!
