I dropped by the August 12th “Back to School” event at Toberman and what a rousing success! Thirty-two stations were set up, both in the parking area and in the gymnasium. Over 300 new backpacks stuffed with school supplies were given out. Hearing and vision stations were available and thanks to the 110 Barbershop, youngsters could even get a haircut. They could stop by Auxiliary member Andrea Perez’s station to have their finger nails done or at Flo Fenton’s station to creatively color pictures they’d chosen from available coloring book. What a happy as well as truly need-filling activity. I’m continually impressed with how well Toberman understands and serves its community.

Thrift Store Update
Exciting changes have been taking place at the Thrift Store. This last year renovation and upgrades were completed including painting and installation of security cameras. A boutique corner now displays higher end clothing and accessories. Operating hours are now Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
On June 26th the Toberman Auxiliary hosted a tea event along with a tour of Toberman. The event included a fashion show showcasing thrift store clothes, purses/sandals and jewelry. The event was quite successful and everyone had a great time.
Marlene Hernandez, the store manager is doing a great job juggling the demands of running the store and coordinating staff and volunteers. Volunteers are needed. If you are interested in volunteering please call Marlene at (310) 832-1145 x140. Also, a volunteer schedule is posted in the store.
The store continues to receive daily donations that require constant processing. We continue to look for innovated ways to move, display and sell items as expeditiously as possible. Any help, thoughts or ideas by the membership would be greatly appreciated.
Sales in July were $2,927.00.
